The Labour Party governorship candidate in Plateau, Patrick Dakum has insisted that he didn’t step down for the governorship candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Caleb Mutfwang.
Hours before the March 18 governorship and state house of assembly elections, a letter purportedly from Labour Party’s national chairman, Barrister Julius Abure, claimed that the party has endorsed Mutfwang’s candidacy over that of Patrick Dakum.
Hence, the purported letter urged Dakum to step down for the PDP governorship candidate and join forces with him to defeat the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nentanwe Yilwatda Goshwe.
However, on Friday, March 17, Patrick Dakum took to his verified Twitter page to post a video urging his supporters to disregard the letter.
He claimed that the party national chairman has also debunked the letter, calling it fake. He also reminded his supporters that the presidential candidate of the party, Peter Obi, visited the state on Wednesday and endorsed him as the party’s governorship candidate in the state.

Naija News reported that Peter Obi had visited that state to appreciate the party’s supporters for voting for him during the disputed presidential election on February 25.
While in Jos, Plateau state capital, the presidential candidate took to his social media handles to write: “I have just arrived in Jos to thank the OBIdients, and urge them to come out en masse to support LP candidates.
“I use Patrick Dakum, our Governorship candidate as my point of contact in wishing the State Assembly candidates a great success on 18th March.
“We remain committed to reclaiming our stolen mandate and turning our focus to true nation-building.”
