Lisandro Martinez reveals Man Utd’s response to nightmare start to season

Lisandro Martinez has discussed Manchester United’s catastrophic start to the season and how they have turned things around since.

Life under Erik ten Hag couldn’t have gotten off to a worse start with Man Utd losing the first two matches of the season – 2-1 to Brighton and 4-0 against Brentford.

After the second of those two games, many stated it was the lowest point yet for the club and expected another poor season, but things have turned around since.

Martinez and Co have recorded four straight wins against Liverpool, Southampton, Leicester and Arsenal, and sit fifth in the table, ahead of Liverpool and Chelsea.

They’ve looked a completely different side to the one that started the season, and Martinez says mentality has had a lot to do with the improved fortunes.

“In the beginning it was no good, it was not what we wanted,” he told club media.

“But we changed directly after Brentford. We changed the mentality, we changed the spirit and then we did an amazing job against Liverpool and then we keep going and you can see now every game the team is ready, is ready to fight – the connection with each other is incredible.

“I think we did a fantastic job against Liverpool and Arsenal. But this is Manchester United, no? When the teams come to play in our stadium, they have to feel it was not easy for them. So yes, now we feel very well about it.”

Man Utd’s first match after the international break is the Manchester derby, and if they win it, they’ll move within two points of their rivals.
