Liga MX & European clubs showing interest in Seattle Sounders’ Danny Leyva

Seattle Sounders midfielder Danny Leyva is generating interest from clubs in Mexico and Europe, 90min understands.

After an injury-hit 2020 campaign, the 19-year-old has bounced back to play 46 senior games for the Sounders across all competitions over the past two seasons. During that time, Leyva has helped Seattle become the first-ever MLS team to lift the Concacaf Champions League.

As revealed by 90min in September, Leyva had begun the process of securing his Mexican passport having been eligible for a call-up by El Tri due to being born to Mexican parents.

And now at club level, interest in Leyva seems to be growing in Mexico.

A report from ESPN MX on Tuesday stated that Liga MX giants Pumas UNAM have signaled their intentions to Seattle to enter into negotiations for a transfer of Leyva. 90min sources have confirmed that report, adding that Puebla and multiple European clubs are monitoring the player’s situation.

90min has also been informed Leyva was recently taken under the wing of agent Jaime Garica, who worked on the transfers of USMNT prospects Ricardo Pepi and Gabriel Slonina to Augsburg and Chelsea, respectively.

Negotiations remain at an early stage, with Pumas and Puebla the only clubs formally declaring their interest to the Sounders.
