According to Tuttosport, English Premier League side, Leeds United, are leading the race for the signature of Nigeria international Ola Aina, as the club remain keen on adding the defender to their ranks.
The Italian publication claimed that Leeds were keen on signing Aina from Torino in the January transfer window.
The versatile defender’s current contract expires in June, and despite efforts to extend the player’s contract for a foreseeable future, both parties have not been able to reach an agreement and now Torino are open to cashing in on the wing-back and are looking for €8m in transfer fees for the 26-year-old.
Aina joined Torino in 2018 from Chelsea, initially on a loan deal, before the Italians made the deal permanent the following season, after an impressive campaign.
The defender has become an integral part of manager Ivan Jurić’s side, having featured in 10 Serie A games so far this season, scoring a goal.
With his current contract coming to an end in the summer of 2023, the Italians don’t want to lose the player for free and are ready to listen to offers for the Super Eagles defender
Tuttosport, however, reported that Jesse Marsch’s side are willing to meet the demands of Torino and pay the €8m, £2m less than what Torino paid for the wing-back to Chelsea.
“He has arrived from the Premier League, he is destined to return to the Premier League,” the website wrote.
“Ola Aina is coveted by several clubs in England, Leeds in the lead. In Turin, he brought his fashionable hair, a certain lightness in interpreting the role of footballer and good music: in two words, that London Style of which Juric had spoken when discussing the character Aina.”
