Leah Williamson ruled out of England games against USA & Czech Republic

England captain Leah Williamson has withdrawn from the Lionesses squad for this month’s friendlies against the United States and Czech Republic because of injury.

Williamson suffered the injury in training ahead of the sell-out clash with USA at Wembley and was seen on Tuesday walking on crutches and sporting a protective boot.

As of Tuesday morning, the Arsenal star who lifted the Euro 2022 trophy at the end of an historic July, was still undergoing further assessment.

But the FA has since confirmed that Williamson will leave the England squad and return to Arsenal to start on recovery and rehabilitation.

Sarina Wiegman has already made a number of changes to the Lionesses squad that she originally named last week, with Alessia Russo and first time call-up Lucy Parker also withdrawing through injury. Nikita Parris and Lotte Wubben-Moy, both Euro 2022 winner who were initially left out of the group this time, have been added as replacements.

No direct replacement for Williamson has yet been named.
