Lawan Announces Fresh Appointments For Senators As He Rejigs Senate Committees

Senate President Ahmad Lawan has announced some fresh appointments for lawmakers chosen to head various Senate Committees.

The appointments were announced on Tuesday during plenary as the upper chamber of the National Assembly resumes from its recess.

The immediate past Senate Leader, Senator Yahaya Abdullahi (PDP Kebbi North) was named the new Chairman of the Senate Committee on Agriculture and Rural Development; a position which became vacant following the election of Senator Abdullahi Adamu (Nasarawa West) as the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in March.

Also, Senator Smart Adeyemi (APC – Kogi West) who was the chairman Senate Committee on Aviation prior to his new appointment, is now the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Senator Biodun Olujimi (PDP – Ekiti South), who headed the Senate Committee on Diaspora and Inter-Governmental Affairs, has now been deployed to chair the Senate Committee on Aviation.

In a similar development, a former Deputy Minority Leader, Senator Ibrahim Danbaba is now the chairman of the Senate Committee on Security and Intelligence while Senator Michael Nnachi (PDP – Ebonyi South) was named chair of the Senate Committee on Diaspora and Inter-Governmental Affairs.

Senate To Screen Acting CJN, Justice Ariwoola On Wednesday

The 9th Senate led by Senate President, Ahmad Lawan will screen the acting Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Olukayode Ariwoola on Wednesday.

Lawan disclosed this while addressing Senators during plenary following their resumption from their annual summer recess.

Recall that President Muhammadu Buhari on the 25th of June, 2022 swore in Ariwoola as acting CJN following the resignation of former CJN, Justice Ibrahim Tanko Muhammad.

According to the Senate President, lawmakers on Wednesday will also work on the Medium Term Expenditure Framework/Fiscal Strategy Paper (MTEF/FSP) 2023 – 2025, Budget 2023, and work to support the defence and security forces of the country.
