Peter Obi Dumps PDP, Submits Resignation Letter

As the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential primary draws near, a frontline aspirant, Peter Obi has resigned from the party.
What has drawn massive media attention has been the ambition of the former Anambra State governor, Peter Obi and his chances of grabbing the presidential ticket of the main opposition.

Peter Obi, who many see as unwilling to dole out huge cash to sway PDP delegates to his side, may be sidelined and outmuscled by others willing to dole out dollars.

Speculations had emerged claiming that the former banker has concluded plans to dump the PDP for a yet to be announced political party.

Naija News gathered that Peter Obi on Wednesday tendered his resignation letter at the PDP National Secretariat, through his campaign director, Doyin Okupe.

Senator Stella Oduah Didn’t ‘Complete NYSC’, May Be Disqualified By PDP

Senator Stella Oduah’s bid to return to the Nigerian Senate through the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ticket may have suffered a set back.

This is coming as the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) says the lawmaker representing Anambra-North senatorial district did not complete the mandatory one-year NYSC programme.

The NYSC in a letter marked NYSC/DHQ/PPRU/783/Vol III by the Director-General of the NYSC which was signed on his behalf by the Director, Press and Public Relations, Eddy Megwa, said Oduah commenced her NYSC programme in 1982 but absconded.

According to The PUNCH, the letter was in response to an inquiry by a group known as the Concerned Anambra North PDP Stakeholders.

Makinde Beats Gbolarunmi To Grab PDP Governorship Ticket

The Governor of Oyo State, Engineer Seyi Makinde on Wednesday grabbed the gubernatorial ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Naija News reports that Makinde will now contest against the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and other political parties to grab a second term as Oyo State governor.

Makinde scored a total of 1,040 delegates votes to defeat his challenger, Mr Hazeem Gbolarunmi who had two votes at the PDP primary held at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba, Ibadan.

As announced by the returning officer, Ben Obi represented by Abdullahi MaiBasia, Makinde emerged as the PDP governorship candidate for Oyo State having polled the highest number of valid.

APC Chieftain Alex Otti Withdraws From Party’s Primary Election In Abia, Gives Reason

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and 2023 governorship aspirant in Abia State, Chief Alex Otti has withdrawn from the race and would not be participating in the party primaries.

Otti in a statement by his special adviser on media and publicity Mr Ferdinand Ekeoma said the process of choosing a candidate for the governorship ticket has been compromised already hence his decision to withdraw from the race.

He quoted a memo from the National Legal Adviser of the APC dated May 18, 2022, to the state chairman to have imposed a strange sharing formula on APC aspirants in Abia state which will definitely lead to the imposition of a pre-determined candidate.

According to Otti, after consulting with his supporters, well wishers and other stakeholders, he has decided to withdraw from the race.

2023 Elections: Fintiri Emerges PDP Governorship Candidate

Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State on Wednesday won the governorship ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Naija News reports that Fintiri emerged the winner of the PDP gubernatorial primary after polling 663 votes out of the 668 accredited votes.

The Chairman of the PDP Governorship Primaries Committee, Barr. Gavin Katabs, made this known in Yola, the state capital.

Katabs disclosed that the former Adawama Speaker polled the highest number of valid votes after five votes were invalidated.

CBN Speaks On Emefiele’s Sack By President Buhari

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) on Wednesday denied that its Governor, Godwin Emefiele, has been sacked.
There have been several reports online alleging that the CBN governor was sacked by President Muhammadu Buhari.

While some social media users believe the president may need to go through legislative processes before sacking the governor, others have continued to spread rumours of his alleged sack.

Speaking with newsmen, the Head of Corporate Communications of the Central Bank, Osita Nwanisiobi denied the rumoured sack.

Enugu: Ekweremadu Jettisons Governorship Ambition, To Announce Next Move

A governorship aspirant on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Enugu State, Senator Ike Ekweremadu has withdrawn from the race to occupy the State Government House.
The former Deputy Senate President withdrew his participation from the PDP governorship primary in a statement by his Campaign Organisation issued on Wednesday.

This comes a day after the former governor of Old Anambra State, Senator Jim Nwobodo, announced that Dr Peter Mbah has been adopted as the next governor of Enugu State.

According to the statement, the organisation asked the supporters of the lawmaker not to expect him at the governorship primary of the party scheduled for today (Wednesday).

The statement said the Senator representing Enugu West Senatorial District in the Senate would reveal his next political move in the coming days and urged his supporters to remain peaceful.

Abia: Abaribe Withdraws From Governorship Race, To Announce Next Move

A governorship aspirant under the Peoples Democratic Party in Abia State, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe has withdrawn from the governorship primary of the party scheduled for today (Wednesday).

The Senate Minority Leader while stating his reason for withdrawal cited the use of an “imaginary delegates list and lack of transparency”.

Abaribe further stated that there was no three-man delegate selection held by the PDP in the state, adding that the list was created by those who want to impose their candidate on the party.

He further in a statement he signed that his next political move would soon be made public.

2023 Presidency: Moghalu Sends Message To Jonathan, Tells Him To Forget About Aso Rock

A former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and 2023 presidential aspirant, Prof. Kingsley Moghalu has sent a message to former President Goodluck Jonathan about his presumed interest in the 2023 presidency.

As political parties gear up for their primaries towards choosing candidates for the 2023 presidential election in Nigeria, speculations have refused to die about Jonathan possibly decamping to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and running for the 2023 presidency on the party’s platform.

Though Jonathan has on several occasions refused to confirm his interest in the 2023 race, some political watchers believe there are some negotiations going on between him and the APC and the former president may just be a surprise candidate at the end of the day.

However, amidst the speculations and political drama, Prof. Moghalu has questioned what Jonathan seems to have forgotten in Aso Rock and is so keen to return to pick up.
