LaLiga: Koeman blames Gonzalez as Barcelona loss to Atletico Madrid

Barcelona manager, Ronald Koeman, has blamed midfielder Nico Gonzalez after Saturday’s LaLiga 2-0 defeat to Atletico Madrid.

Gonzalez started the game against Atletico Madrid as two goals from Thomas Lemar and Luis Suarez gave the host all three points against Barcelona at the Wanda Metropolitano.

Koeman spoke about Nico after the match and feels the 19-year-old should have done better for the opening goal scored by Lemar.

“You cannot leave so much space when we lost the ball,“ Koeman was quoted by Barca Blaugranes as saying after the game.

“We had spoken exactly about that, our midfielders needed to follow their men – and Nico let Lemar run for their opening goal.

“That is why we have played sometimes with three Centre-backs, we leave too much space, and do not have pace in midfield to cover players like Llorente or Lemar in this case.”
