The Kwara State Police Command, has warned any person or group of persons with intent to cause breakdown of law and order in the March 11, 2023 gubernatorial and house of assembly elections in the state to be prepared to face the full wrath of the law.

The state Police Commissioner, Paul Odama, issued the warning in Ilorin on Wednesday at a high powered security meeting with area commanders, divisional police officers and heads of tactical units in the state.

Paul Odama said the security meeting was summoned as a proactive measure to secure the lives and property of the good people of Kwara State, as the preparation for the conduct of the gubernatorial and house of assembly elections in the state is at a feverish stage.

The spokesman of the state police command, Okasanmi Ajayi, in a statement in Ilorin, said a strategy was developed to make the security of the coming governorship election even more effective as it was done during the presidential and national assembly elections.

He said the command’s strategic managers have been lectured on more robust ways of partnering with other agencies, INEC, CSOs and other officials during and after the elections.

According to Okasanmi, police men on election duties have been directed to ensure that women, the elderly and the physically challenged are preferentially treated to make them discharge their civic duties without stress on the day of the elections.

He said police men have also been trained to be civil to voters and other election stakeholders on the day of the elections.

“Consequently, every needed tool and welfare that would enhance the performances of the officers during the exercise have already been given and collected by the officers, therefore, they have no reason to derelict,” he added.

The Commissioner of Police, has also enjoined all and sundry to cooperate with security agencies to enable the state to bequeath an acceptable and peaceful elections to the state.
