Kwankwaso Speaks On Rift Between Him And Shekarau

Just In: Shekarau Dumps APC, Defects To NNPP

The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) presidential candidate, Rabiu Kwankwaso, has cleared the air on the rift between him and former Governor of Kano State, Ibrahim Shekarau.

Kwankwaso on Wednesday said there is no rift between him and Shekarau amidst speculations that he might join the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The presidential candidate also revealed why some demands of Shekarau were not met by the party.

According to Kwankwaso, the requests of the former Governor were not met because there was no time on their side to grant his demands.

There had been speculations that Shekarau might join PDP after Kwankwaso failed to fulfil the agreement they had before joining NNPP.

Kwankwaso speaking in an interview with BBC Hausa said most of the people that joined NNPP because of Shekarau joined when the Independent National Electoral Commission will not accept their candidacy.

He, however, promised to give Shekarau’s associates a position if the party wins in 2023.

The presidential candidate said, “There is no agreement that was not fulfilled other than that of contestants. We have tried our best to honour the agreement but time couldn’t permit us.”

Shekarau had dumped the All Progressives Congress to join Kwankwaso in NNPP to take over Kano State and also win the presidential election.
