KRC Genk has signed Nigerian forward Toluwalase Arokodare on the transfer deadline day.

Genk was in the market for a direct replacement for Paul Onuachu, who left for Southampton, and quickly turned to Arokodare who was on the verge of signing for Anderlecht.

The Nigerian was at Neerpede on Tuesday night, having his medicals.

However the striker later left Neerpede and drove straight to Genk after receiving a call from Genk’s Director of football Dimitri De Conde.

Arokodare then signed four-and-half year deal from Valmiera although he had played on loan at French division two side, Amiens.

The deal is reportedly worth €4.5m which could rise to €7m at the end of the contract.

Arokodare netted eight times and provided two assists for Amiens.

Meanwhile, Anderlecht turned their attention to Islam Slimani, the 34-year-old striker from Stade Brest, after the deal for Arokodare fell through.
