Kebbi Governor, Bagudu Dissolves Cabinet

The executive Governor of Kebbi State, Atiku Bagudu has dissolved his cabinet.

The reason for the decision was not made public, but a statement signed and made available to newsmen by the Secretary to the State Government, Babale Yauri, noted that some of the members of the dissolved council might be recalled for new positions, Naija News reports.

The statement quoted Bagudu as saying that the dissolution of the executive council is with immediate effect from Wednesday, 7 September 2022.

“The Governor is sincerely appreciative of the individual contributions of each member of the Cabinet and thanked them for their dedication to duty and ensuring peace and steady development of the state during their respective tenure in office,” the statement said.

He thanked all the members of the dissolved council for their performance, adding that a new State Executive Council would be announced soon.

Naija News reports that the crisis in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) camp has caused division among governors elected on the platform of the party.

Some PDP governors at different times had called for the removal of the party’s National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu.

The governors insisted on Ayu’s resignation from office as its demand to support the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.

The likes of Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, Enugu State Governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, Abia State Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu, Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed and Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom on several occasions have supported the call for Ayu to step down from office.

This is coming despite the stand by the camp of the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku that Ayu would remain in office.

Some governors in the party have decided to line up behind the former vice president and others behind the party’s national chairman.

According to a source that spoke with The Guardian, governors in support of Atiku and Ayu’s continuous leadership are, Akwa Ibom Governor, Udom Emmanuel, Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal and Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri.

The Governor of Taraba State, Darius Ishaku, however, has not taken a stand on the camp he belongs to as the party prepares for the 2023 general elections.
