The growing waves of insecurity in Katsina State has forced the Katsina Emirate Council (KEC) to cancel its regular Eid-ul-Adha royal exhibition festival.

Naija News understands the festival which is a royal exhibition of garments and regalia that also features horse riding normally accompanies the Sallah celebration.

However, a statement signed by assistant secretary Alhaji Sule Mamman Dee said the feature will not be part of this year’s Sallah celebration.

The statement added that the Emir will however lead the Eid prayers in the mosque on Saturday and prayed that “all perpetrators of evil in the state and in Nigeria be exposed.”

The statement, originally written in the Hausa language, reads, “The Emirate Council is informing the general public that by God’s grace, on Saturday 9th July, the Emir will lead the Eid prayers in the mosque.

“The council further asks ALL to pray to God to grant us peace and unity. Amen.”

The announcement comes in the wake of the attack by terrorists on security operatives and an advance team of President Muhammadu Buhari heading for Daura, Buhari’s hometown, ahead of the Sallah festivities.

They were attacked near Dutsinma in Katsina.

In a statement by the president’s spokesman, Garba Shehu late on Tuesday night, he said that his principal was not in the convoy at the time of the attack.

The presidential aide added that the attack was repelled by gallant presidential guards but some of the security operatives sustained injuries.
