Ivan Toney’s Brace Stung City To Dent Their Title Hopes

England International, Ivan Toney, has put his World Cup snub aside to score twice to defeat Manchester City at Etihad Stadium.

Toney lifted his hands to cover his ears as he celebrates to send a signal to the England Manager about his choice of omitting him.

As the teams wrap up their final match before the World Cup break, Pep Guardiola has experienced his first defeat at home and also has something to think about over the next few weeks.

Gareth Southgate’s seemed to be having a bit of a rough day before stoppage time as Toney scored an inopportune goal, while Phil Foden scored one that England will not care about at all.

Few players are as technically skilled as Foden, and his nicest half-volley serves as a reminder to those who argue he shouldn’t play for England’s top squad.

And in the coming weeks, it could seem like a gift that Foden has been unusually absent from this Manchester City team for the last month.

After Foden’s goal, Pep Guardiola’s team picked up the pace in an attempt to grab the lead, but IIkay Gundogan’s squandered opportunity cost them a chance to make it 2-1.

Toney’s chances were again stopped by Ederson, but tenacious Brentford remained a danger.

When Brentford caught City on the break, Toney was given an opportunity to sweep in Josh Dasilva’s cross into the net.
