Is Brahim Diaz playing today? AC Milan team news & suspensions vs Tottenham

Milan take a slender advantage into Wednesday’s Champions League round of 16 second leg against Tottenham, but they must be at their resilient best if they’re to hold off Antonio Conte’s Lilywhites.

Stefano Pioli appeared to be undergoing an identity crisis when he switched to a back five following a disastrous run of form, but the switch seemed to ignite something within the Scudetto holders before they were beaten by Fiorentina at the weekend.

The Rossoneri matched Spurs man-for-man in the first leg and prevailed by a slender margin. Although, they spurned a couple of gilt-edged chances in the second half to put the tie beyond the Premier League side.

It’s bound to be a tense and cagey affair in north London on Wednesday night. Here’s the latest Milan team news.

No Milan players will miss Wednesday’s game through suspension. However, four players, including Fikayo Tomori and Sandro Tonali, have picked up two yellow cards in the Champions League this season and are a booking away from earning a one-game ban before the slate is wiped clean.

Milan received a huge boost after the first leg with star goalkeeper Mike Maignan returning from a long-term injury. The Frenchman is fully fit and will start between the sticks on Wednesday night.

There were fears that Olivier Giroud could miss out due to illness, but the Frenchman trained in the build-up to the game and is set to make the trip to London. Divock Origi should also make Pioli’s squad after battling illness.

Tomori will return to Milan’s back five after missing the first leg through injury, and it’ll be interesting to see who he replaces in the starting XI. Simon Kjaer is the most likely candidate to drop to the bench despite performing well against Harry Kane last time out.

AC Milan predicted lineup vs Tottenham (3-4-2-1): Maignan; Kalulu, Tomori, Thiaw; Saelemaekers, Bennacer, Tonali, Hernandez; Leao, Diaz; Giroud.

The two sides are currently separated by Brahim Diaz’s early strike in the first leg, but the Spaniard suffered an injury scare ahead of the second leg.

The Spanish playmaker missed Milan’s defeat in Florence with a knee sprain and was initially a doubt for Wednesday’s game. However, Diaz was back in training on Tuesday and is expected to be fine to start against Spurs.
