INEC To Review Abia LG Election Results

INEC To Deploy One Million Officials For 2023 Elections - Yakubu

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced on Sunday night that it would review results from the Obingwa Local Government Area (LGA) of Abia State.

Naija News understands that thugs stormed a collation centre in the LG earlier when officials were sorting and collating Saturday’s governorship and the house of assembly election results.

Addressing the press on Sunday evening in Abuja, the INEC National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, Festus Okoye, said the behaviour of the thugs was unacceptable, and due to their acts, there will be a thorough review of results from the area.

Okoye said, “Earlier today, the commission alerted the nation to the invasion of our Obingwa Local Government Area office in Abia state by thugs during the collation of the governorship and state assembly elections.

“In contention were the collated results from the Registration area for the governorship and state assembly elections in that local government. The intention was to force the collation of these contentious results.

“The behaviour of these thugs is unacceptable, and there will be a thorough review of the results.”

The Returning Officer for the state, Prof. Nnnena Otti, had adjourned the collation of the state’s polls to March 20 at 10 am announcing that other local governments were not ready yet.

Only ten of the 17 LGAs have submitted their results to INEC, Naija News understands.
