The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Usman Alkali Baba has shown interest in the case of a police officer, Okoi Liyomo who was captured on camera flogging a man with a cutlass in Cross River State.
A video was said to have gone viral on social media capturing the moment the personnel used the side of a cutlass to flog an individual.
It was unclear what the victim had done wrong to deserve the brutality. The view of the officer brutalizing the civilian, however, attracted reactions on social media and caught the attention of the police authorities.
In a tweet on Friday, the force spokesperson, Muyiwa Adejobi, said the IGP had summoned Liyomo to Abuja on Thursday and was condemned for his actions.
Adejobi said the erring officer will face trial over the incident.
He tweeted: “PC Okoi Liyomo, the policeman who was caught in the viral video flogging one man with a cutlass in Cross Rivers State has been brought to the Force Headquarters Abuja. He met with the IGP today. The IGP has ordered for his trial. I await the outcome of the trial.
