How Can A United States Ambassador Visit A Drug Baron?

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Femi Fani-Kayode, has reacted to claims that the party’s presidential candidate, Bola Ahmed Tinubu was convicted of drug trafficking in the United States.

Naija News recalls that an old judgment document had surfaced on Tuesday that alleged that the United States District Court, Northern District of Illinois, indicted Tinubu of drug trafficking and money laundering.

Reacting to the claims, Fani-Kayode via a series of tweets claimed that there was no truth to the allegations.

The former Aviation Minister insisted that the US Ambassador to Nigeria would not have visited Tinubu if he was wanted in America.

He insisted that the APC flag bearer would not have avoided extradition if he was convicted of drug trafficking in US.

He wrote: “BAT was neither indicted nor convicted of drug trafficking or anything else in the USA. This is a FACT & it’s the BOTTOM LINE. Those that have labelled him a drug baron due to an out-of-court settlement & repatriation of funds in the U.S. 30 years ago are ignorant t& misinformed.

“They have no idea of how the American justice system works, and I would urge them to go and find out.

If Asiwaju was a drug baron and if he was wanted in America, I doubt the U.S. Ambassador would have visited his campaign office a few weeks ago to wish him well.

“If he was a drug baron that is wanted in America I doubt that he would have avoided extradition all these years, considering the power, hatred, fury and venom of his numerous enemies and many detractors.

“If he was a drug baron, he would not be the leading contender for the presidential election & the man to beat next year. The opposition is desperate & are doing all they can to discredit him before February next year.

Fani-Kayode alleged that the document was the handwork of the opposition.

He argued that after the issue with the Muslim/Muslim ticket failed and lost steam they decided to come up with another technique.

Speaking further, the APC chieftain stated that despite the tactics from Jagaban’s enemies he still stands firm and remains a strong runner in the upcoming election.
