Houston Dynamo to reveal new head coach on Tuesday

The Houston Dynamo have announced they’ll reveal their new head coach at a press conference this Tuesday.

Houston have been searching for a new candidate to lead the club since parting ways with Paulo Nagamura in early September.

Despite a promising early start, the 39-year-old departed with just eight wins from 29 games across all competitions, with the Dynamo finishing 2022 13th in the Western Conference, 11 points adrift of the MLS Cup Playoffs spots.

Former DC United head coach Ben Olsen and current El Salvador national team boss Hugo Perez are among the favorites for the job having already been interviewed.

The new head coach reveal was originally scheduled for Monday but has now been moved back one day. The event will see Dynamo majority owner and chairman Ted Segal and general manager Pat Onstad introduce the club’s sixth head coach to the media for the first time.

Whoever fills the role will have a big job on their hands, with Onstad fully expecting the Dynamo to challenge for a return to the Playoffs for the first time since 2017 next season.

“We still believe our team was good enough to be there,” Onstad said last month. “It’s not the season we wished for, but we’ve been able to evaluate what we have, who we have on our roster and get a really good feel for that, and prepare us better for the offseason.”
