Houston Dynamo sign Paraguayan forward Ivan Franco from Club Libertad

The Houston Dynamo have strengthened their forward line with the signing of Ivan Franco from Paraguayan giants Club Libertad.

Franco arrives on a one-year deal through the 2023 MLS season, re-uniting with former teammate Sebastian Ferreira, who became the Dynamo’s club-record transfer last winter.

The 22-year-old joins after playing 117 times for Libertad across all competitions, scoring 10 goals and providing 16 assists, and winning two Paraguayan Apertura titles.

“Ivan is an exciting young attacking talent who we hope can flourish in our environment in Houston,” Dynamo general manager Pat Onstad said in a club press release.

“At his best, Ivan is a difference maker who can play across the front three attacking positions, and we can’t wait to work with him in Houston.”

The arrival of Franco – capped once at senior level for Paraguay – marks the latest step as the Dynamo look to rebuild under new head coach Ben Olsen.

Houston once again failed to make the MLS Cup Playoffs in 2022, finishing 13th in the Western Conference, meaning they’ve missed out on the post-season in eight out of the last nine seasons.
