Governor Ortom claims he was targeted for assassination by Fulani terrorists on seven occasions

Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue state has made startling claims that he was targeted for assassination on seven different occasions by individuals he referred to as “terrorist Fulanis.” Speaking in an interview with Vanguard, Governor Ortom revealed that these attempts on his life occurred during his eight-year tenure as the state’s governor.

Ortom expressed his gratitude to God for protecting him throughout his challenging journey. He shared his belief that his role as governor was a divine mandate, citing his vision of becoming governor back in 1992 when he was a local government chairman. Despite facing numerous obstacles, including strong opposition during the 2015 and 2019 elections, Governor Ortom acknowledged that he was able to emerge victorious due to God’s grace and divine arrangement.

Reflecting on his challenging tenure, Governor Ortom drew inspiration from the biblical passage of the Psalmist, stating that he had walked through the valley of the shadow of death but remained fearless with God by his side. He highlighted the numerous adversities he faced, including attempts by powerful individuals at the federal and local levels to unlawfully remove him from office. Furthermore, Governor Ortom revealed that he narrowly escaped seven assassination attempts by what he described as “terrorist Fulanis,” emphasizing that it was only by God’s intervention that his life was preserved.

In conclusion, Governor Ortom expressed his deep gratitude to Almighty God for safeguarding him throughout his tenure despite the numerous challenges and dangers he encountered. He remains resolute in his commitment to serving the people of Benue state.
