Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State has declared his intention to contest for the position of the Senate President of the National Assembly.

Umahi, the Senator-elect for Ebonyi South Senatorial zone in the 2023 general election, declared his intention on Wednesday during a Statewide broadcast and Press Conference held at the Executive Council Chambers, Government House, Abakaliki, the state capital.

The Governor called on the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to consider zoning the Senate President position to the South East geopolitical zone of the Country.

He said: “I want to put myself forward for the position of the Senate President. want to appeal to the National Assembly to amend the rules. I put myself forward. I will not go against their decision. Let the will of God come to pass. We courageously left PDP because our people needed to aspire to the leadership of this country.”

Governor Umahi, while congratulating the State Governor-elect, Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, appreciated Ebonyi people for their well placed solidarity which gave victory to the All Progressives Congress.

He further congratulated his brother Governors, including Nyesom Wike of Rivers State and Babajide Sanw-olu for their successful outings in their States during Saturday March 18 elections.


While congratulating the APC family at the National and State levels for the victories, Umahi urged the elected to be magnanimous in victory.
