Gerardo Martino announces 15 additional players for ‘sparring’ at the World Cup

The Mexican national team announced 15 additional players will make the trip to Girona and Qatar to accompany El Tri as ‘sparring partners’.

Gerardo Martino revealed he is set to take the young players in the hopes they gain experience from the friendlies in Spain and World Cup.

“My thanks go to the clubs that have so kindly given us the footballers for what we consider a good experience for the boys, to understand what a World Cup is like, to live with the players who are going to be World Cup players and to prepare for tomorrow,” Martino said at a press conference.

“Because surely many of these boys can be on a higher selection list next year.”

The list is made up entirely of Liga MX figures, leaving out prominent players like LA Galaxy’s Julian Araujo and Santos Laguna goalkeeper Carlos Acevedo.
