Genk coach Wouter Vrancken talks on Cyriel Dessers transfer situation

Vrancken stated that he has already discussed with the Nigerian international about his place within the squad so it is left in Dessers’ hands to make his decision.

Dessers is in the middle of transfer uncertainty at Genk with the 27-year-old linked with moves to Italian clubs Cremonese and Monza.

The Genk manager is spoilt for choice up front at Genk with Vrancken having to choose between Nigerian strikers Paul Onuachu and Dessers ahead of the 2022/23 season.

As reported by Belgian news outlet Hbvl, Vrancken stated that he has already discussed with Dessers to tell him his position in the team.

Vrancken said: “That does not work. Cyriel knows perfectly how I feel about him and what he can expect. Just like with any other player, I’ve had several conversations with him about this.”

The Genk manager further stated that the club would have to make their decisions if the Super Eagles striker decides not to stay with the Belgian club for the 2022/23 season.

“That is about the way of playing and, for example, the competition with Paul Onuachu. He will also have to make his choice. And we as a club have to be done with our homework if he doesn’t choose us,” Vrancken concluded.

Dessers had a productive 2021/22 season on loan at Feyenoord, scoring 10 goals in 13 UEFA Europa Conference League matches to take the Dutch side to the final against AS Roma.
