Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour Wins Labour Party Gubernatorial Ticket In Lagos

Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour has emerged as the Lagos State Governorship candidate for the Labour Party (LP) for the 2023 General election.

Naija News reports that Rhodes-Vivour scored 111 votes to defeat his opponent Mashood Salvador in the Labour Party substitution primary held on Wednesday in Ikeja, Lagos.

Salvador, a former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) State chairman polled 102 votes.

Recall that Rhodes, 39, had last month left the PDP to join the Labour Party to fulfil him ambition of running for the governorship of Lagos State.

Salvador had also defected from the All Progressive Congress (APC) last month as well.

The deputy national chairman of the LP, Lamidi Apapa, had announced that 215 accredited voters cast their votes in the primary election.

The election recorded two void votes.

A third guber aspirant, Babatunde Gbadamosi, did not participate in the primaries.

Meanwhile, former state party chairman, Ifagbemi Awamaridi who had initially won the gubernatorial ticket of the party when the primaries were held months ago vowed to not let go of his ticket.

Awamaridi insists that he is recognised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as the party’s flag bearer.

Speaking to journalists after he was announced the winner, Rhodes-Vivour described the election as credible and transparent.

He also said that he will reach out to Awamaridi, the party’s candidate recognized by the electoral body, INEC.

“He is somebody that we are going to reach out to and make sure that he is going to be part of the campaign and everything that we are ongoing,” Rhodes-Vivour said.

Because he is a strong party man. And we are going to ensure that he is carried along.

“This is a substitution exercise, INEC is here and I’m sure by the time they publish their final list, you will see a reflection of this process that has happened.”
