Focus on Best Supporting Actors nominees — Saturday Magazine — The Guardian Nigeria News – Nigeria and World News

Last week, it was the five leading Nollywood actors in the Best Leading Actor and Actress categories of the 2022 AMAA Nomination grid.

This time, the focus is on seven notable actors and actresses – Wale Ojo (A Song From The Dark), Toyin Oshinaike (Jolly Roger), Segun Arinze (Almajiri), Josh2Funny (Money Miss Road) Ijeoma Grace Agu (Swallow), Dorcas Shola Fabson (Man of God) and Nse Ikpe Etim (A Song From The Dark) who will be flying Nollywood’s and indeed Nigeria’s flag at the biggest and most prestigious global reward system for filmmakers in the African continent and Diaspora—Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA).

Moviedom salutes these notable Nollywood men and women for making the very competitive nomination list of the supporting actors in the continent.

Wale Ojo (A Song From The Dark)
LEADING actor Wale Ojo is on the AMAA 2022 nomination grid as best supporting actor. He was selected for his role as Magnus in Ogo Okpue’s well-helmed movie, A Song From The Dark.

An accomplished actor who was born in London, and who started out as a child star working mainly on drama series and television soaps with Africa’s first television station, WNTV IBADAN, Wale has earned several nominations, including a nomination at the AMAA and a nomination for best comedy actor at the Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards in 2018.

His acting career in the United Kingdom began in 1986 when he played a very young OTHELLO in the east end of London. He has gone on to appear in most of the theatres in the United Kingdom and in a couple of movie productions in Nigeria including Phone Swap, which won him the award for best actor at the Nigeria Lite Entertainment awards, CEO, Render To Caesar, Blood Sisters and A Place Called Forward.

Toyin Oshinaike (Jolly Roger)
AN accomplished stage and screen actor and theatre director, Toyin Oshinaike is on the nomination grid as best supporting actor. His role as Officer Yaw in Wlater Banger’s emotive film, Jolly Roger, earned Oshinake his first AMAA nomination.

A trained theatre practitioner, Oshinaike who started his professional career over three decades ago has featured in countless stage, movie and television productions, including Elesin Oba in Wole Soyinka’s Death and The Kings Horseman, Baroka in Wole Soyinka’s The Lion and The Jewel, and Nimi in Ahmed Yerima’s Hard Ground. On screen, his credits include Roti, Nigerian Prince and The Ghost and the House of Truth.

A recipient of the National Association of Nigeria Theatre Arts Practitioners (NANTAP) award for Outstanding Contribution To The Development Of Theatre Arts In Nigeria, Oshinaike has written, produced and directed three plays titled What Is This All About, Brats and The maid of the White House and I Am Not Wole For Heaven’s Sake.

Segun Arinze (Almajiri)
VETERAN actor Segun Aina Padonu is on the nomination list for best-supporting actress. Popularly referred to as Segun Arinze, the former President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) was a key cast member of Toka Mcbaror’s movie Almajiri.

First known nationally for his portrayal of the role of ‘Black Arrow’ in that action movie of the nineties by Chico Ejiro titled Silent Night, Segun, actor, singer, voice-over artiste and compere became noted as a singer with an irresistible voice. However, with the emergence of Nollywood, the Nwanyi Nga Ga star became Nollywood’s undisputedly ‘bad boy’ and the producer’s first choice for an actor who can add zest to a picture.

Since the current President of the National Association of Voice Over Artistes (AVOA joined Nollywood, his rating has not dropped.

Josh2Funny (Money Miss Road)
COMEDIAN Chibuike Josh Alfred or Josh2Funny for short featured as Josiah in Obi Emelonye’s Money Miss Road. It was his role as Josiah that earned the Anambra-born actor and musician a nomination at the AMAA.

Josh2Funny shot into the limelight when his skit #DontLeaveMe went viral. Star of Lagos Real Fake Life, the comedian is currently working on seasons of his popular YouTube series, The Audition.

Ijeoma Grace Agu (Swallow)
NOTABLE actress Ijeoma Grace Agu played Rose in Swallow and she delivered on all counts. Although not the lead actress, Ijay as the biochemistry graduate of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, is simply called by close pals was brilliant as Rose and she played the role to the hilt.

Married to filmmaker Daniel Emeke Oriahi, the actress who was raised in Benin City and Lagos started off her professional career in 2007 with a role in Eldorado, that long rested television series directed by Fidelis Duker. But the star of Oko Asewo (Taxi Driver) and Misfit came into the limelight following her role in Hoodrush.

The recipient of 2014 Best of Nollywood Most Promising Actress award rode on the back of Hoodrush to pick up roles in movies such as Misfit, The Arrangement, Beyond Blood, and Just Not Married among others.

Ijay had received a best-supporting actress nomination at the 12th Africa Movie Academy Awards and had won the award grant from Theatre Royal Stratford East for a one-woman show she developed in 2012.

Dorcas Shola Fabson (Man Of God)
ACTRESS and Singer Dorcas Shola Fapson featured as Rekiya in Bolanle Austen-Peters Man Of God. The believable manner she interpreted the role earned her a nomination for the best-supporting actress category of the 2022 AMAA.

Best known for her role as Sophie in MTV’s Shuga, Fapson, a criminology graduate has appeared in series 3 of MTV Shuga as Sophie and was the presenter of The Juice, an interview series for Ndani TV. Fapson’s filmography includes Banana Island Ghost, The Perfect Arrangement, and The Essence.

Nse Ikpe Etim (A Song From The Dark)
LEADING actress Nse Ikpe Etim is on the nomination grid and on the category of the best-supporting actress. The University of Calabar trained actress featured as Isioma in Ogo Okpue’s A Song From The Dark.

An incredible talent, the actress, writer, show host and Best Actress at the Africa Magic Viewer’s Choice Awards in 2014 was believably in character. An actress of vast credit, Nse is the star of critically acclaimed movies such as Mr And Mrs, Phone Swap, Journey To Self, and King of Boys II.
