Focalistic explains why Nigeria is his second home

Lethabo Sebetso, a South African music icon also known as Focalistic, is thrilled by the love that Nigeria, which he now considers to be his second home, has shown for his music.

The Amapiano star candidly expressed his gratitude to his Nigerian followers while chatting with a team of content creators during Spotify’s Amapiano Tour, which will take place in Pretoria, South Africa on March 19, 2023.

Focalistic may currently rank second behind his home country with more than 50 million streams from Nigeria, according to the musician himself, but things did not start off well for him with the market.

He said, “The first time I went to Nigeria, people weren’t dancing – they were literally just watching me with flashlights and I thought, ‘No, we need to change this.”

Since then, the star’s fortunes in Nigeria have improved, and he attributes this to his partnership with David ‘Davido’ Adeleke, a superstar of the Afrobeats genre.

Months apart in 2021, the team cooperated on a remix of South Africa’s Ke Star and then the Champion Sound blockbuster song.

“From meeting Davido four years ago and now having over 50 million streams from Nigeria alone, it feels like that’s my second home. When Champion Sound went number one, I was in Nigeria, performing, and it just spiritually happened – the universe. It’s been a crazy journey,” he recounted.

The Spotify Amapiano Tour, which took place from March 19 to March 22, looked at the origins of the music and how smart partnerships may make it a mainstay global juggernaut.

Focalistic stated that he has been asked about collaborating with others to continue the sound’s momentum, especially in Nigeria where he has lined up projects with Afrobeats superstars.

The 26-year-old claimed that in the previous week, he had already recorded a new song with a Nigerian musician, but he refrained from naming the artist.
