Five people died while four others sustained injuries in a fatal motor accident in Gwaram Local Government Area of Jigawa State.
An eyewitness told DAILY POST that the incident happened Saturday morning when a vehicle loaded with passengers and animals lost control.
He said five persons and animals were burnt to death after the vehicle lost control and rammed into a school building at Sabuwar Gwaram junction.
Spokesman of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence, Jigawa State command, CSC. Adamu Shehu confirmed the incident to newsmen.
According to him, “An accident occurred in the early hours of Saturday at about 0600hrs when a white-coloured Peugeot J5 bus with registration number NSR 693 ZF loaded with passengers and animals lost control at Sabuwar Gwaram Junction.
“The vehicle veered off the road and rammed into a nearby primary school classroom, both vehicle and the building went up in flames.”
He said the vehicle was from Gombi LGA in Adamawa State heading to Katsina State.
CSC Adamu explained that five passengers lost their lives while four sustained various degrees of burns and injuries, and were rushed to Gwaram General Hospital for immediate medicare.
He added that 17 cows and a goat were also burnt to death.
The NSCDC spokesman said the deceased were buried at the instance of their relatives according to Islamic rites.
