At least five people have reportedly been killed in a clash between two cult groups in the Ahoada Area of Rivers State.
Naija News reports that the spokesperson of the Rivers State Police Command, Grace Iringe-Koko in a statement on Monday disclosed that the clash appears to be a fight for supremacy by the groups known as Icelanders and Greenlander.
She said the incident happened at 7:30AM while identifying two of the deceased as 36-year-old Chukwujeku Kingsley and a 23-year-old Chibuike Thank God.
The other three are yet to be identified, the statement added.
The police said tactical patrol teams have been mobilized to the area to restore normalcy while an investigation into the incident is ongoing.
The rival cult groups clashed near an internally Displaced Person(IDP) camp in Ahoada Town, headquarters of Ahodao-East Local Government Area of Rivers State.
Ahoda is one of the four LGAs hit by the current flooding in the state.
Man Blinded By Arrow In Communal Clash
Meanwhile, a man was reportedly blinded by an arrow while others were killed In a communal clash between two border communities of Gamawa and Zaki LGAs of Bauchi State.
The state police spokesperson, SP Ahmed Wakili, who could not confirm the number of deaths, explained that the clash was between the youths of the Tarbuwa community in the Zaki local government area sharing a boundary with the Kubdiya community in the Gamawa local government area.
He maintained that the two communities used various dangerous weapons such as bows and arrows, clubs, sticks and others to attack each other, leading to death and injuries on both parties
Wakili, however, stated that the situation had been put under control as security operatives have been dispatched to the area
