EPL: Why Man City cannot escape expulsion, points deduction

Manchester City will be unable to appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, CAS, if the Premier League imposes any sanctions on the club for breaching financial fair play regulations.

In 2020, UEFA ruled that City had committed “serious breaches” of Financial Fair Play (FFP) regulations between 2012 and 2016.

UEFA punished the Etihad club with a two-year ban from European club competitions.

CAS eventually overturned the decision after City reportedly instructed lawyers to appeal every judgement.

But according to The Times, that will not be the case this time around because Premier League rules prevent intervention from CAS on this occasion.

Should Man City be found guilty, they face a range of potential sanctions including a points deduction or even an expulsion, though it could take years to come to a conclusion.
