EPL: We aren’t playing Football Manager – Paul Merson sends message to Chelsea owner, Boehly

Arsenal legend, Paul Merson, has urged Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly to be patient with manager Graham Potter after the Blues’ record-breaking spending spree.

Chelsea, under the leadership of Boehly, signed eight players, including Enzo Fernandez, in the January window at the cost of around £296 million.

However, Potter’s side failed to beat Fulham as they drew 0-0 in a Premier League tie on Friday night at Stamford Bridge.

But Merson has now told Boehly that it will take time before the performances and results pick up, adding that the Premier League is not Football Manager.

“It didn’t surprise me yesterday, to be honest. I didn’t think they were going to instantly win,” Merson said on Sky Sports.

“You know we are not playing Football Manager here! Can’t just get them all together; put them in, and they win.

“It’s going to be hard. There are a lot of languages, a lot of players who have played different ways in their careers for their clubs, and it is going to take time.

“It’s how patient Todd Boehly’s going to be.”
