EPL: I thought he’d be like Lampard – Scholes warns Man Utd against signing Chelsea star

Manchester United legend, Paul Scholes has questioned the club’s push to sign Mason Mount from Chelsea this summer.

The former England international believes that the midfielder ‘hasn’t kicked on’ at Chelsea.

Scholes said he compared the 24-year-old with former Blues captain, Frank Lampard when he (Mount) broke into the senior team but is disappointed the England star has not lived up to the hype.

The midfielder’s contract will be expiring at the end of next season and he has attracted interest from several top clubs ahead of the summer transfer window.

United are the latest club to join the race and one of the frontrunners to sign the Chelsea youth product and are prepared to submit a £55 million bid.

Scholes feels his former team should think again, sharing his concern over Mount’s lack of progress and his return in front of goal.

“Look, I like Mason Mount… does he do enough?’ Scholes told Premier League Productions.

“I thought when he first came onto the scene, ‘have got a new Frank Lampard?’ I know we talked before about not comparing players to these types.

“But I expected him to score goals, a lot more goals, in big games, to win you games, he hasn’t really kicked on from there.

“I think a change of club might not be a bad thing for him.”
