Ekiti NUJ Highlights Activities for 2021 Press Week

Activities marking this year’s press week of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ Ekiti State Council, begin on Monday, November 8, 2021 with a media dialogue and free eye test for members.

A statement by the chairman planning committee, Comrade Ajibola Taiwo, says the dialogue with the theme Maintaining Good Journalism Amidst Security and Economic Challenges” will take place simultaneously with the eye test at the NUJ Press Centre, Okebarake, Old Governor’s Office Ado Ekiti by 10am.

The statement explains that the dialogue which is sponsored by the Special Adviser to Ekiti State Governor on Communications and Strategy will be anchored by the Chief Press Secretary to Ekiti State Governor, Hon Yinka Oyebode.

The ceremony continues on Tuesday the 9th of November 2021 with a public lecture with the theme “THE MEDIA AND THE CONTEMPORARY NIGERIAN EXPERIENCE” to be delivered by a governorship aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC Otunba Demola Popoola, at the NUJ Hall beside NTA Ado Ekiti, by 10am.

According to the statement, there will be a novelty match on Wednesday the 10th while dinner and award night will take place at the AB Emporium Hotel Adebayo Ado Ekiti where eminent personalities who have put in extra efforts to succeed in their chosen careers and who have contributed to human capital development including the Governor of Ekiti State, Dr. Kayode Fayemi will be honoured with awards of excellence.

Other awardees include former Chief of Defence Staff and current Nigerian Ambassador to the Republic of Cameroon, General Abayomi Gabriel Olonisakin, Director of Media and Public Affairs @ the Palace of the Ooni of Ife, Comrade Moses Olafare, Gbobaniyi of Efon Alaaye, Chief Olatunde Ashaolu, an entrepreneur, ADEPOJU AJAYI, the Iyalaje Oodua, Princess Toyin Kolade and Former lawmaker at the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Hon Adebayo Morakinyo.

A journalist with BSES Mrs Bimbo Adegboyega will be honoured with the chairman’s award while lafe Prince Femi Adelusi who was a member of information chapel and former VP B Zone will get a posthumous award.

On Friday members will converge at Aromokeye Mosque Adebayo Ado Ekiti by 1pm and ditto on Sunday for a special Thanksgiving at the Methodist Church Nigeria, Dalimore, Ado Ekiti.

All stakeholders veterans are expected to grace the occasion.
