The 9th edition of the award show took place on Saturday, May 20, at the Eko Hotel, honoring talents in the film industry from all over Africa. Vanguard, a publication, reported that hustlers and runs girls apparently took over Eko Hotel during the 2023 AMVCA, engaging in activities such as gallivanting and soliciting financial assistance.
According to the report, the number of guests outside the convention center, where the sold-out show was held, far exceeded those inside. One incident involved hustlers approaching Nkem Owoh, popularly known as Osuofia, as he was returning to his room after the show. These individuals allegedly begged him for financial aid and continued to follow him even as he sought a safe space. The crowd only dispersed when he managed to blend in with the crowd.
In summary, during the 2023 AMVCA at Eko Hotel, hustlers and runs girls were said to have infiltrated the premises, with reports of them outnumbering the guests inside the venue and engaging in solicitation.
