The Department of State Service, DSS, issued a stern warning about plans by certain individuals or groups to violently disrupt the peace in Nigeria. Peter Afunanya, the spokesperson for the DSS, released a statement on Saturday, March 25, stating that it is evident that some aggrieved politicians are already taking advantage of the legal process. The DSS believes that this approach enhances peace and security, and all Nigerians should cherish it. However, the DSS will not tolerate a situation where persons or groups take laws into their hands and champion anarchy. The DSS warns those who are desperate to cause a breakdown of law and order to desist from that. It is otherwise disturbing to see respected personalities use their platforms to mislead or incite citizens. This does not augur well for peaceful coexistence and general order.
The DSS urges those who are inciting violence to stop forthwith. Those peddling fake news, hate speech, and all forms of false narratives as the basis to ignite violence or pit the people against the present or incoming administrations at the federal, state, and parliamentary levels, should also stop. The DSS believes that those inciting violence have nothing to gain, as doing so will not only consume them but also the innocent. The Service will continue to take necessary measures to checkmate these elements who do not wish the country well.
The primary goal of the DSS is to ensure that a conducive environment is provided for citizens and residents to pursue their legitimate businesses. The DSS believes that a stitch in time saves nine, and all should be guided to maintain peace and order. It is essential to note that the DSS will not relent in its efforts to ensure that the nation remains safe and secure. Nigerians are therefore urged to go about their legitimate businesses without fear of violence or any form of disruption to their peace and security.
