Eminent personalities at the 12th convocation of Caleb University, Imota, Lagos, have advised the graduands to have an entrepreneurial mindset and be creative.
The University’s Information, Media and Publication Specialist, Mr Olawale Adekoya, said the three-day ceremony, titled, ‘Digital disruptions, financial inclusion, startups and the challenge of youth creativity,’ was now restructured to hold during Founder’s Week.
The Pro-Chancellor, Prof. Sunday Ajayi, who extolled the virtues of the Visitor and Founder, Dr. Oladega Adebogun, for his vision of establishing a world-class institution like Caleb University, praised the graduands for raising the bar.
“They should imbibe the core values of Caleb University; godliness, innovation, service, integrity, teamwork, excellence, and creativity, in all their future endeavours and they should always cite Philippians 4: 8-9, and commit it to heart.”
The Convocation lecturer, Managing Director and CEO, AIICO Insurance Plc, Mr Babatunde Fajemirokun, counselled the youths to have an entrepreneurial mindset and acquire skills in order to be constantly ahead of the competition in a vastly competitive world.
“Technology has changed a lot, as Flutterwavers and others are using technology to provide digital solutions. My hope is that Caleb graduates will also foster this growth in the nearest future.”
In his speech, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Nosa-Owens Ibie, urged the current undergraduate students to make use of their time in the school positively.
“Students should not be worried because the school has deposited in them all they will need to face the reality of life head-on. Practice all you have learned. He said, “Your time here is just like that of the incubation period whereas, by the end of your stay, the seed would have germinated.
747 students graduated with Bachelor’s degrees; while 32 students bagged the First Class. Others are 390 (Second Class Upper); 313 Second Class (Lower); and 13 (Third Class).
Out of the 219 Post Graduate Degrees students presented, 32 made Distinction, while 187 made Pass.
Miss Eunice Osho emerged as the Most Outstanding Undergraduate Student; while Mr Olaniran Timothy Oyelowo took the Most Outstanding Postgraduate Student award.
The Chancellor, represented by the VC, conferred the Honorary Doctorate Degrees on; Founder/Chairman Channels Television; Dr John Momoh, and Chairman TVC Communications, Mr Dele Alake.
