Dariye Speaks On Joining Labour Party, Running For Senate

2023: Dariye Speaks On Joining Peter Obi’s Labour Party, Running For Senate

A former Plateau State Governor, Senator Joshua Dariye, has denied media reports that he is set to declare interest to contest the Plateau Central Senatorial seat on the platform of the Labour Party (LP).

Daily Trust had reported that the Plateau State chapter of LP has concluded arrangements to welcome Dariye from Abuja to pick the party’s senatorial form.

An LP chieftain, who craved anonymity, said Dariye has the capacity to spring surprises at next year’s election because of the love many have for him in the state.

He stated that Dariye has also given a boost to the party’s governorship candidate, Patrick Dakum, who defected to the LP, after failing to secure the ticket of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The source said: “Yes, it is true that he (Dariye) will be running for a Senate seat. We are making arrangements for him to come from Abuja for the senatorial declaration.”

Naija News recalls that Dariye, who served as Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governor, contested and won a senatorial seat in 2011 on the platform of LP.

Reacting to the claim, the former Plateau governor stated that he was not running for Senate or any other elective post at the moment.

Dariye described the media reports as unfounded and untrue, saying that he has not bought any senatorial form or done anything to that effect.

He made this known on Thursday when he received Governor Simon Lalong, his wife, and National Assembly members from the state as well as members of the State Executive Council at his residence in Abuja.
