Dangote, Dantata, Others Get New Appointments In Kano

Kano State Governor Abdullahi Ganduje has appointed billionaire businessman, Aliko Dangote, his uncle, Aminu Dantata, and Abdulsamad Rabi’u as members of the state Zakkat and Hubsi Commission.

Confirmation of their appointment was contained in a statement released on Wednesday through the State Commissioner for Information, Malam Muhammad Garba, Naija News reports.

Zakat, Naija News understands, is an Islamic finance term referring to the obligation that an individual has to donate a certain proportion of wealth each year to charitable causes.

Zakat is also outlined to be a mandatory process for Muslims and is regarded as a form of worship.

Other members of the Zakat committee as approved by Governor Ganduje are Dr AbdulMutallab Ahmed as commissioner I, Dr Lawi Sheikh Atiq, commissioner II of the Commission.

Naija News reports that appointment of the committee members is a sequel to the approval of the Kano State Executive Council that reconstituted the Board of Kano Zakkat and Hubsi Commission with Dr Ibrahim Mu’azzam Maibushira as Executive Chairman.

Other members include representatives of the five Emirate Councils in the state, representatives of the Ministry of Information, Ministry of Religious Affairs, as well as Kurmi, Rimi, Kwari and Singer markets, respectively.

As contained in the statement, the council has also approved the establishment of the Committee for Screening of International Islamic Organizations.

Prof. Sani Zaharaddeen, the Chief Imam of Kano, would serve as Chairman, Dr Muhammad Adamu, Commissioner for Religious Affairs, / Co-Chairman and Auwalu Yakasai as Secretary.

Meanwhile, after ending the year 2021 with a sumptuous revenue to the tune of N1.38 trillion, Dangote Cement Plc on Tuesday (yesterday), proposed a dividend of ₦20/Share.

The company disclosed this in a statement released through its Chief Executive Officer, Michel Puchercos.

Naija News reports that the CEO while speaking on Tuesday in Lagos, said the company’s commitment to environmental disclosure and sustainability yielded desired results last year with the Carbon Disclosure Project which increased the company’s rating.

As revealed in the company’s financial report for the full year that ended December 31, 2021, it recorded revenue worth N1.38 trillion made up of N993.34 billion from Nigeria while revenue from across African plants was N397.32 billion, against the N1.03 trillion in 2020, translating to 33.78 per cent increase.
