The killers of Mrs Funke Olakunrin, the daughter of former Afenifere leader, Chief Reuben Fasoranti, have been handed death sentence.
A High Court sitting in Akure ruled on the three suspects on Friday after series of trials.
Naija News recalls that Olakunrin was murdered by the convicts along Benin-Ore-Shagamu Expressway in the Ore Odigbo Local Government Area of the state in June 2019 while she was returning from Lagos State.
Subsequently after months of trails the killers were arrested on April 6, 2020, by men of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad of the Nigeria Police Force.
The convicts are revealed as Awalu Abubakar, Muhammed Shehu and Adamu Adamu.
Meanwhile, the fourth suspect, Auwalu Abubakar, who was accused of aiding and abetting, was discharged by the judge.
In his ruling on Friday, the High Court judge, Justice Williams Olamide found the trio guilty of involving in murder, kidnapping and armed robbery and sentenced them to death.
After delivering his verdict, Justice Olamide urged the government to urgently address the growing insecurity situation in the country which he said had led to many paying the supreme price.
