Court Case: FG Has Declared War

ASUU, FG Disagree Over Planned Meeting

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has accused the Federal Government of declaring way before the National Industrial Court of Nigeria (NICN).

Recall that NICN on Wednesday ordered ASUU to call off its nationwide industrial strike.

The court also directed the union to reopen all public universities and return to their duty posts after seven months of shutting down the learning institutions.

ASUU on Friday (today) is set to file an appeal against the ruling of the National Industrial Court which directed its members to resume work.

The development was confirmed by the counsel for ASUU, Femi Falana (SAN), during an interview with Punch on Thursday.

Falana, speaking on the plan of the union to appeal the ruling, said, “We are filing the appeal tomorrow (Friday) morning. We just got the certified true copy of the judgment on Thursday. The appeal will be filed first thing Friday morning.”

FG Has Declared War – ASUU

The Chairman of ASUU in Ebonyi State University, Ikechukwu Igwenyi, on Thursday, said the Federal Government has declared war against ASUU members following the court ruling.

He wondered why lecturers would be directed to return to classrooms with empty stomachs and unpaid bills.

Igwenyi said, “The NIC ordered ASUU to call off the ongoing strike and return to the classroom with empty stomachs and unpaid bills pending the determination of the suit filed against the union by the Federal Government.”
