Corinne Diacre sacked as France women’s national team manager

France have confirmed they have decided to part ways with Corinne Diacre as the manager of the women’s national team.

Diacre only recently vowed to remain in her post until the 2023 World Cup, despite high-profile stars like Wendie Renard, Kadidiatou Diani and Marie-Antoinette Katoto refusing to play under the manager.

In the face of significant pressure, the French Football Federation (FFF) held an emergency meeting about Diacre’s situation on Thursday and have now confirmed the decision has been made to part ways with the 48-year-old.

“The Executive Committe (Comex) of the FFF met this Thursday, March 9, to receive the conclusion of the report commissioned by interim president Philippe Diallo on the situation of the French women’s team, following the various statements of several players,” a statement read.

“The numerous hearings carried out made it possible to establish the observation of a very significant divide with the executive players and highlighted a discrepancy with the requirements of this high level. This fracture has reached a point of no return which harms the interests of the team.

“It appears that the dysfunctions observed seem, in this context, irreversible.

“In view of these elements, it was decided to put an end to the mission of Corinne Diacre at the head of the French women’s team.

“This change of coach is part of a new global ambition led by the FFF in favour of the development of women’s football and the performance of the French team, which will have high objectives during the World Cup and 2024 Olympics.”
