Growing a business online has many sides to it. One popular aspect is the use of paid ads either on social media (Facebook / Instagram) ads or on Google (Google ads). While many of these can be effective when done right, the cost involved in running successful ads online can be dissuading. However, content marketing affords any business the opportunity to show up on Google Search Engine Result Page (SERP), and relevant blogs and forums where your clients congregate without spending money on ads.

Strategies for successful content marketing:

  1. Determine who the content is for: Be intentional about who the content is intended for. This ensures that every content is laser targeted and speaks to the exact need of buyers.
  2. Select channel: Based on the target audience above. The business owner needs to determine which channels his target audiences are on. These can be a combination of blogs, forums, and social platforms.

This ensures that the chain of content mimics the buyer’s journey, from awareness to interest, consideration, and decision.

While there are several keyword research tools, Google has its own Google keyword planner tool, found at https://ads.google.com/home/tools/keyword-planner/

Here is a breakdown of the process to perform a keyword research. Once on the link above, Click on ‘get started, on the next page that opens, click on ‘tools’ as illustrated below;

On the page that opens up, click on ‘discover new keyword’. This is where the fun starts.

Once opened, it opens up a window where once sample phrases related to a business industry is being imputed, Google will show a list of other relevant keywords for that industry.

Writing content around these keywords on blogs is a good way to help any company rank on Google without spending money on Pay Per Click (PPC) ads.

Content marketing does not only happen on a business’s own website (blog), these contents can also be posted on forums, and as a guest blog on other relevant websites. As a rule of thumb, ensure every article is relevant, helpful, and valuable to the intended audience.

Content marketing takes time and effort, but when done consistently over time, it can yield great results for any business.
