Christian Atsu: I’m deeply pained – Mikel Obi, Gyan, others reacts to death of ex-Chelsea player

Former Sunderland striker, Asamoah Gyan and Chelsea legends, John Obi Mikel and Michael Essien have reacted to the death of Christian Atsu, a former Chelsea and Newcastle United winger.

The lifeless body of Atsu was discovered underneath the earthquake rubble of his home in Turkey on Saturday.

Atsu was earlier this month caught up in a 7.8-magnitude quake that killed more than 43,000 people in both Turkey and Syria.

His manager in Turkey, Murat Uzunmehmet, told the DHA news agency on Saturday that the Ghanaian star had been discovered under the rubble in the southern Turkish province of Hatay, adding that “his belongings are still being removed and his phone was also found.”

Reacting to the sad news, Mikel Obi in a post via his Instagram account, said he was deeply pained by the death of Atsu.

The former Super Eagles captain wrote, “Mikel Obi, “I am deeply saddened by the news of the passing of Christian Atsu, my thoughts and condolences are with his family, friends and everyone affected by this very devastating event.”

On his part, Asamoah Gyan wrote on Twitter,”R.I.P Brother.”

Similarly, Michael Essien also tweeted, “Rest well King.”
