Chelsea plan to build US-inspired Hall of Fame

Chelsea are moving toward establishing a “Hall of Fame” to recognize club legends.

Given the ownership structure at Stamford Bridge, it should come as no great surprise that the idea was clearly influenced by American sports.

Todd Boehly, the co-owner and chairman, is already a co-owner of the LA Dodgers and LA Sparks, two of the most recognizable and well-known companies in their respective sports.

The Evening Standard reports that Boehly specifically wants to ‘expand Chelsea’s operations beyond the traditional remit of an English football club’.

It is expected that the club will add a number of former players to a ‘Hall of Fame’, as well as pushing forwards with ‘Legends’ matches. The Blues want to grow their current group of 12 ambassadors and are targeting two Legends games each year – one home, one away.

The recently rebuilt club museum at Stamford Bridge will now have a Legends section, according to plans.

Beyond ambitions for the club’s Legends division, Chelsea also wants to increase the marketability of age-restricted football and start selling out games at the under-18 and Premier League 2 levels.
