Carlo Ancelotti reveals stance on potential ‘corruption’ in La Liga amid Negreira scandal

Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has faced further questions on the Negreira scandal hanging over Barcelona.

Barça are alleged to have paid former referees chief Jose Maria Enriquez Negreira for advice on how to avoid being on the end of controversial officiating decisions.

The suggestion from these reports is that Barcelona may have potentially received preferable refereeing decisions as well.

It’s a scandal that has rocked Spanish football in recent weeks, with several La Liga sides voicing their concerns in a public statement.

Real Madrid declined to comment on the situation, however, and when asked for his thoughts on the Negreira case at a recent press conference, Ancelotti was adamant that Barcelona were not guilty of ‘corruption’ as it does not currently exist in the modern game.

“There is no corruption here, or in Italy, or in Europe. The referees make mistakes everywhere and if they make mistakes you just have to accept it,” he said.

“I get angry sometimes, but I am super convinced that at this moment there is no corruption in the world of football.”

An investigation from the Prosecutor’s Office is ongoing, with La Liga president Javier Tebas warning Barcelona will be sanctioned if they are found guilty of wrongdoing.
