The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Kaduna State chapter, has condemned the gruesome murder of Rev. Fr. John Mark Cheitnum by bandit terrorists in the state.

Naija News earlier reported that the decomposing body of the Catholic priest abducted recently has been recovered while another cleric regained his freedom.

Recall that the two priests, Rev. Fr. John Mark Chietnum and Rev. Fr. Donatus Cleopas were abducted last week Friday, 15th July.

The two priests were kidnapped from the rectory of Christ the King Catholic Church, Yadin Garu in the Lere Local Government Area of Kaduna where they were on an assignment.

In a statement on Tuesday by the Catholic Diocese of Kafanchan, Rev. Fr Emmanuel Uchechukwu Okolo disclosed that while Chietnum was killed, Cleopas regained freedom by escaping from the kidnappers’ den.

Okolo added that the victim was allegedly killed the same day he was kidnapped.

Reacting to the sad incident, Kaduna CAN Chairman in Kaduna, Rev. John Joseph Hayab, described the gruesome murder of the Catholic priest as dangerous terrain for Christian leaders.

Hayab expresses sadness over the murder of the priest, adding that Kaduna is a dangerous place to travel through and not safe, particularly for Christian leaders.

He revealed that Chietnum was the CAN Chairman of Jema’a Local Government Area of the state, as well as coordinator of CAN in Southern Kaduna until his death.
