CAF Confederation Cup: Rivers United boss, Eguma blames loss of concentration for defeat to Diables Noirs

Rivers United head coach, Stanley Eguma says his team lost concentration in key moments during Sunday’s CAF Confederation Cup clash against Congo’s Diables Noirs.

The Nigerian champions lost the Group B encounter 3-0 in Brazzaville.

The hosts scored all three goals in the first half with Rivers United missing a penalty after the break.

“We never expected this result because we prepared for a better result but unfortunately, we got beaten 3-0,” Eguma said after the game.

“You could see that in the first 30 minutes, the game was balanced and we got two corner- kicks which shows that we are attacking when we conceded the first goal my players lost concentration as a result of tactical indiscipline.”

ASEC Mimosa of Cote d’Ivoire and Congo Democratic Republic’s DC Motema Pembe battled to a 0-0 draw in the group’s other game.

Rivers United will entertain ASEC Mimosa in their second group game at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium, Port Harcourt on Sunday.
