Buckingham Palace Releases Last Official Portrait Of Queen Elizabeth II

As the world bids farewell to Queen Elizabeth II, the Buckingham Palace has released a final portrait of the late monarch, who died at 96 years old on September 8.

The photo which was reportedly shot by Ranald Mackechnie, captured the late queen smiling warmly while wearing an icy blue dress adorned with an aquamarine brooch, which was gifted to her by her father, King George VI, for her 18th birthday.

She additionally donned a three-strand pearl necklace and pearl-and-diamond earrings, both of which have since been seen on Catherine, Princess of Wales.

“Ahead of Her Majesty The Queen’s State Funeral, a new photograph has been released. The photo was taken to mark Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee – the first British Monarch to reach this milestone. Tomorrow, millions will come together to commemorate her remarkable life.” The royal family said in a statement on Twitter that accompanied the photograph


Naija News reports that the remains of Queen Elizabeth II were buried in the Royal vault at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor castle on Monday evening of September, 19th 2022. 

A private burial which was conducted by the Dean of Windsor, Right Reverend David Connor was attended by the King and the royal family.

Details of the service were not disclosed, with Buckingham Palace calling it a “deeply personal family occasion”.

The event was not televised and the media were not present at the burial.

The Queen’s coffin was laid to rest in St George’s Chapel, alongside Prince Phillip and her parents, King George VI and the Queen Mother.

Britain’s long-serving monarch died on 8 September 2022, at Balmoral Castle, United Kingdom (UK), at the age of 96.
