Benevento names Cannavaro replacement, Stellone puts Simy to work as dreadful season Continues

A seven-game winless run puts immense pressure on Benevento manager Fabio Cannavaro, forcing his sacking, after the latest defeat came last weekend at home against Venezia.

Benevento have lost four of the last seven games, and the defeats leaves them scratching near the base of the table.

The clash was a relegation scrap and Cannavaro watched haplessly as his side lost a third consecutive Serie B match.

Nicholas Pierini (3′) and Joel Pohjanpalo (70′) both scored either side of Andres Tello’s goal in stoppage time of the first half (45+4′).

Benevento were also reduced to 10 men following Mattia Viviani’s expulsion from the game in the 89th minute.

At some point, Simy Nwankwo was introduced with the team desperate for goals.

On Monday, the club announced the appointment of Roberto Stellone and he took charge of his first training session same day.

The former Napoli forward was previously in charge of Reggina.

Currently, Benevento sit 19th in the 20 team table and enter the Match week 24 with just 23points. They face Cagliari at the Sardegna Arena on Saturday.
