Be innovative, Abiodun tells MTU, others

DAPO ABIODUN

The Governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun, has enjoined Mountain Top University, other institutions and research centres in the state to come up with inventions that will contribute to national development.

Abiodun who was the guest lecturer at the fourth convocation of MTU spoke on ‘The youths as catalysts in building Nigeria’s future.’

He emphasised that it was high time the schools in Ogun State began to find a serious relationship between the town and the gown.

Abiodun said, “I call on you to come up and take advantage of the vast opportunities in the different sectors of the economy. It is a truism that not all of you would work in offices. And I advise that you take pride in whatever entrepreneurial skills and enterprise you take up.

“Therefore, I charge Mountain Top University and other institutions and research centres to come up with more productive approaches to collaborate and produce youths that will sustain and increase the tempo of development, not only for today but to provide a solid foundation for the future. For example, we cannot afford to have all of you around and still be having food shortage in Ogun State.

“Also, your graduates must be able to come up with inventions that bigger companies can take up and develop. By now, we should be talking of Nigerian-made phones, Nigerian-made laptops, Nigerian-made calculators.”

Also, the Vice-Chancellor, MTU, Prof Elijah Afolabi, told the graduands to shine brighter, irrespective of where they find themselves. He said the university had done its bid and handed them a touch of excellence.

He said, “You are a product of all positive efforts invested in your academic journey and the ease that comes with God’s grace. This, however, marks the start of another journey for you. Over the years, you have been equipped with the spirit of excellence and the world awaits your manifestation.”

The Chancellor of MTU and General Overseer of Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries, Prof. Daniel Olukoya, advised the graduands not to stop learning.

Olukoya said learning was rigorous and demanding, adding that its fruit would be sweet and rewarding to those who had paid the price.

After delivering the convocation lecture Abiodun offered N2m gift to the best graduating student of MTU, Victoria Amaechi.
